Overview
Achieving the best print quality for your yearbook depends on using high resolution images, checking your layout carefully, and reviewing your pages at the correct zoom level. These tips help ensure your final book looks crisp, clear, and professionally printed.
1. Use High Resolution Photos
- Photos should always be clear and sharp before they are placed into the designer.
- Aim for images that are at least 300 DPI
- Avoid screenshots, social media photos, and images that have been texted or compressed
- Request the original image directly from the photographer when possible.
2. Avoid Enlarging Photos Too Much
- Stretching an image beyond its original size makes it blurry.
- Keep the photo close to its natural dimensions
- If you see a low resolution warning, reduce the image size or replace it.
3. Check Your Layout at the Correct Zoom
To preview quality accurately, use:
100 to 125 percent zoom
This range gives the most realistic view of how your images will print. Zooming in above 150 percent will make even high quality images look blurry.
4. Use Good Lighting and Stable Photos
If you are taking photos for the yearbook:
- Shoot in bright, natural light when possible
- Avoid motion blur by holding the camera steady
- Use the highest quality setting on your camera or phone
5. Avoid Over Cropping
- Cropping too tightly removes detail and can reduce clarity.
- Leave enough space around subjects
- Avoid enlarging the cropped version too much
6. Upload the Original File
Images lose quality when saved repeatedly or downloaded from messaging apps.
Always upload the original file instead of a copy or screenshot.
7. Review Pages in Preview Mode
Before submission, review the book in Preview Book to ensure everything looks crisp.
This mode gives a cleaner view than the working designer. You can find the it in Manage Ladder.
