Now that you have a better understanding of the top tool bar, take a look at the tool bar on the left side of the page:
The buttons under the category ‘Insert Items’ place an object or a frame onto your page:
Beneath the section ‘Insert Items’ is the ‘Actions’ section:
To see what your page will look like after printing, select Preview Mode. This removes any guidelines from your page and trims the edges. Select the button again to turn off this mode.
Quickly build a page with Page Builder. Select photos, choose a template, preview your automatically generated result, shuffle the images (if needed), then build your page.
If you need to re-arrange the order of your pages, use the Move Pages button. You can move your whole spread with standard page moves, or a single page with advanced page moves. To learn more about page moves, click here.
There are 2 default layers to every page in EDOnline: the CONTENTS layer, where you design most of your page, and the BACKGROUND layer. You may switch between these layers and create new layers using the Layers button. To learn more about layers, please click here
If you would like to add a perfectly aligned grid of drop photo boxes and/or text boxes, use the Auto Grid tool. This is especially useful when you are laying out your people pages.
If you notice content is missing from a page you saved, or you would like to revert to a previous version of the page, use the Recover Pages tool to go back to an old version of your page.
Now that you understand the buttons on your page, take a look at the page canvas itself. You will notice that there are 3 lines around the page edges:
Safety Line : The purple line is where you want to keep all content that you don’t want getting cut off in production. Keep things like text boxes and images within this line.
Cut Line: The black line is where we physically cut the pages in production, where the edge of your page will be.
Bleed Line: The red line is where you want to extend all backgrounds to. The bleed line exists so that when we are making your books, if we don’t cut exactly on the black cut line, the background always goes to the edge of the page instead of white lines.
Now that you have a better understanding of the tools, start designing your first page! The best way to familiarize yourself with the EDOnline designer is to practice, explore, and have fun!
