Adding text to your page is amazingly simple in the EDOnline designer. In this help page we will go over how to add a text box to your page, different ways you can edit your text, text wrapping, and text in overflow warnings.
How to Insert Text
Open a page in the EDOnline designer. For more info on how to open a page, click here.
Click the Text button that looks like a “T” from the Insert Items section of the left toolbar.
Upon opening the text menu, you will see 3 default text styles:
Default Body Text is a 16 pt. Arial font. We suggest using this for body copy in your yearbook.
Default Headline Text is a 52 pt. Arial font. We suggest using this for any headlines on your page.
Default Caption Text is a 12 pt. Arial Italic font. We suggest using this for captions under photos.
Click on one of the default font options and it will highlight green.
After clicking on one of the default font options, your cursor will turn into a green T. Click anywhere on your page to insert a text box.
To type in the text box, double click it and you should see a blinking text cursor. You can then type anything!
You can also add text from elsewhere, such as a Word Document, by highlighting the text you want to use and then copying it by pressing CTRL+C on your keyboard or right click and choose “Copy”. Then, in your text box, highlight the text you’d like to remove and right click, again, and paste or pressing ctrl+V to paste into your text box.
Editing Text
Once you have successfully placed a text box on your page, you will see a text QUICK MENU appear at the top of your screen.
Using the Quick Menu, you can change many different things about the text on your page.
One thing you might want to change is the Font. After clicking on the font box, you should see a new menu appear with all your font options. Scroll through the options and select the font you would like to use.
Depending on the font, you can bold, italicize, or underline your text. Note that these options might not be available for all fonts from this list.
If you need to change the Font Size, direct your attention to the number in the quick menu. Type in the font size you would like to work with, or use the arrows on the right side to increase or decrease the font size.
To change the Font Color, click on the black A box from the QUICK MENU. A drop-down menu of color options will appear; select the color you would like to use.
To change the Alignment of the text in the frame, select from the available alignment options. You can align your font from the left, right, center or justify it to the size of your text box.
If your page starts becoming busy with a lot of design elements, it might become hard to view as you edit the text on your page. Click the Text Edit Mode from the Quick Menu to isolate your text so that you can focus only on the text and settings, like in a word document. When you’re done editing your text, click Exit Text Edit Mode.
Once you’ve made all the changes to your text box, you might want to save all the changes you’ve made to it so you don’t have to keep making the same edits to all your text boxes. You can create a shortcut to add new text boxes with these exact settings by selecting Save Text Style from the quick menu.
All your text styles will appear in the Text menu on the left hand side of your screen. You can also create a new text style directly by clicking the New Text Style button. To learn more about creating your own text styles, click here!
Using Text Wrap
To wrap your text around an element on your page, you should use the Wrap Text feature. To learn more about this feature, click here
Text in Overflow Warning
If you see a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark at the bottom right hand corner of your text box, this means that the text you are trying to add is more than the size of the box. Fix this by either expanding the size of the text box, or changing the size of the font. For more info on this pre-flight warning, click here.
Making your Text Box Stand Out
Adding a border around your text and changing the background color will help differentiate your text from other items on your page! Select your text box and use the toolbar above your page designer to add a border or fill your text box.
