Many schools want to flow 2 classes onto one page because of small class sizes, limited pages or they have AM and PM classes with the same teacher. To do so, layers are going to be your best friend!

To begin, you are going to use the “Auto Grid” feature to create the layout you want for the first class.

Once you generate the grid, adjust the grid on your page to have the amount of students you need for that section and the portion of the page you want it.

Next you are going to go to the “Layers” menu under Actions on the left side of the page. We are going to create a new layer for the second class photos to go onto.

Click Create layer and type in your new layer name. I usually name this second layer “Class 2”

You will use “Auto Grid” again to create the second class layout and place the frames in the area for the second class.

You should now have two sets of portrait templates on the page.

Helpful Tip: Make sure both classes start with “NAME 1”

Now we are going to use the multi-select tool to move the second class photos to the new layer we created “Class 2”. This must be done before flowing the classes onto the page.

Once all of the frames are highlighted in red, you are going to right click and select “Move to Layer”, then click the new layer you created, “Class 2”. Save the page now to make sure all your hard work is saved.

Another way to create another group of frames to a second layer is by selecting the “Class 2” layer from the drop down in Auto Grid before clicking “Build on Left/Right Page”. Make sure to adjust the “Top Margin” value so the frames will be placed at the bottom part of the page.

Now we are ready to Flow the two classes on the same page!

When you go to “People” tab then “Flow People“, there will be an extra step where you choose which page you want to flow the class onto. In this case when you hit left page, it is going to ask which layer you want to flow the class onto. We are going to select “CONTENT” for the first class.

Once selected, the first class will only flow onto the photo boxes on the content layer.

We are now going to flow the second class onto the page with one change to the steps from the first class. This time when you select which page to flow the class onto, instead of clicking content layer, select the other layer you created. In this case select “Class 2”.

You will now have two classes flowed onto the same page and you can repeat these steps on other pages as needed. Make sure to always create your new layer for the second class on each new page spread.
